These are the best pictures I have ever seen of a puppy birthing. This was Shelby's first litter. Fortunately for her and us it was not a difficult one. It was stressful enough as it was. She is an excellent mother. All puppies have new (very good) homes. We will be more than happy to put you on our list for our next litter or refer you to other breeders.
Mother (Dam): ShelbyWith much anticipation, we now can hardly wait the expected 58 - 62 day of gestation. For the first four weeks we examined her several times a day, hoping to see some change. By the 5th week changes started to take place. By the 6th week, there was no doubt!
Shelby's sister Sadie had puppies 3 weeks before Shelby. Both are slender built and we discovered that if you listened carefully during the last week to their stomach with a stethoscope you could hear the puppies heartbeats. They are a lot faster than the moms. When I heard the heart beats in Shelby, (along with the experience of Sadie 3 weeks earlier), we knew the birth would be within the next week. Six days later on January 17th, her 58th day of pregnancy, her labor began. That morning she didn't want any of us around. She went and hid under the beds, and could be heard digging and rearranging things under the kids beds. She was restless the entire day and wanted to be left alone. She was definitely not her normal, sociable self. Around 5:30, she started passing mucus..... |
At 6:30 p.m., the first puppy began his great escape. Shelby remained calm during the entire birthing process. So much so it made you want to help! |
Slowly pushing with each contraction and relaxing between each contraction. Notice neither baby or mom is stressed during the entire process. | |

Contracting and helping to pull the sack with her mouth. |
One last push
and relief for all - mom, baby and humans! |

Now cleaning off her little miracle of mother nature. He weighed 6 1/2 ounces. From the first show of the sack to delivery was 15 minutes. |
Seven weeks old - Smart, feisty, cuddly, sweet, eager to please, (does not like the word "no"), easily trained and ready to make his new family complete. |
We strongly recommend our method - buy a used baby playpen. It keeps the mother calm and the babies confined. Mom can easily get in and out with the side down. As the babies grow the side can go up to confine them. Also, the puppies can remain in the house (warm environment and close enough to look at all the time) and your house remains clean! What a wonderful experience! Can't wait till the next time!
I have had many inquiries from prospective parents all over the United States. Yes we can ship our animals to you (within the US only). This requires they be at least 8 weeks old. Please visit my shipping webpage for more information on what is required and the costs involved. Please don't ask me how much it cost. I get emails everyday from all over the US and a very, very small percentage of these people have actually purchased and had me ship the animal. I do not ship other people's animals.
